Rick Fritz is a professional photographer and visual storyteller based in Monticello, Iowa, with a passion for creating images that go beyond simply documenting a subject.

His work spans commercial photography, portraits, events, architecture, products, and highly creative photographic composites. Rick is particularly drawn to challenging projects that require thoughtful lighting, careful planning, and extensive post-production to create an image that could not be captured in a single exposure.

One of his signature approaches is Art In The Dark, a long-exposure photographic technique created in darkness. Subjects are photographed and illuminated piece by piece in controlled darkness, then carefully assembled in Photoshop to create dramatic, dimensional & unmistakably your, final images. The technique allows Rick to approach vehicles, boats, machinery, products, architecture, and other subjects as photographic art rather than simply as conventional photographs.

Rick’s creative work also includes Paws In Action, featuring PawTraits, Peanut Butter Pawtraits, Paws and Their Human, and Release the Hounds—approaches to photographing dogs that combine personality, movement, and creative lighting.

His portrait work extends to Family Get Togethers, with an emphasis on capturing those moments when Everyone Is Finally Home, as well as Newborn At Your House—a relaxed newborn experience where there is no packing the diaper bag and the photography comes to you.

Rick also photographs Small Venue Weddings, with two to three photographers available depending on the needs of the event. His approach emphasizes genuine moments, creative imagery, and comprehensive coverage without losing the intimacy of a smaller celebration.

With a background built through years of hands-on experience, Rick combines technical knowledge with an experimental approach to lighting, composition, long exposure, and digital artistry. His goal is straightforward: create images that make people stop, look, and see the subject differently.
