I’m Mary Degner, founder of MJ Degner Photography, based in the Chicago area. I am a professional photographer who is passionate about creating beautiful images of landscapes, nature and lifestyle that appeal to the soul. The purpose of my images is meant to draw you, the viewer, in to inspire and transport you into a joyful frame of mind.
I love creating fine art images that are vibrant and dramatic, but which also will intimately connect you to nature and culture, for your enjoyment and reflection. All of the fine art in my galleries is available for sale. If you are interested in commissioning a special fine art project for your home or office, I am more than happy to work with you on creating an image or images that make your vision a reality.
In addition to making fine art images, I find it very rewarding to provide professional portraits for some of the most important events in your life: Senior (high school and college) portraits, engagement portraits, maternity portraits, and family portraits, as well as headshots. Because I love capturing images with natural light, I normally shoot outdoors, integrating nature with your special moment. My sessions are personalized, fun, and relaxed – we’ll walk through all of the details on your session from beginning to end, so that the process is as joyful for you as it is for me!
I opened my “About” page on my website with an excerpt from a very well-known poem by Robert Frost. It is one of my favorite poems, because my life journey has usually gone in the direction of the “one less traveled by”, and my career as a travel, nature and lifestyle photographer is no exception…and it truly “has made all the difference”.
