Can an image inspire change? That's a question I often ask myself and perhaps one of the primary reasons I fell in love with photography. I have been shooting since 2010 and have had no formal photography training. Learning has come about from simple experimentation, shooting with professionals, participating in online critique pages to improve my skill, and of course reading…lots and lots of reading. I am a zoologist by trade and spend much of my time educating and exposing the public to threatened and endangered species. I am fortunate enough that my job also allows me endless opportunities to photograph nature and wildlife - which is my primary interest as far as photography is concerned. I have discovered that people can become very emotionally linked to a photograph. That link can sometimes be powerful enough to inspire change for a better future in regards to the subject photographed. I would still consider myself mostly an amateur even though I have had some wonderful successes. There is always more to learn and I am continually striving to take a better image.
