Dimitri Mais

I've been surrounded by arts my entire life, growing up in a family of musicians. I studied classical music as a child. While fascinated by visual arts, I got into art school at age 15, studied painting, and moved to New York right after graduating. Even as a kid, I was always drawn to the camera. I was always the first to volunteer to take family photos and document our precious memories. That attraction never left. I always carried my point and shoot camera around, mainly to take reference photos for my paintings; eventually, I felt that I could express myself better with the medium of photography, so I bought a professional DSLR camera in 2011 and started shooting portraits and headshots in my home studio while learning various thicks and techniques by working with and assisting other already established and experienced photographers. Since then, I've been a freelance photographer, and over the last decade, I have had the pleasure of working with many unique and inspiring individuals, brands, startups, publications, artists, models, and creatives alike.

Nowadays I specialize in portrait photography and everything remotely connected to the field - headshots, lifestyle, editorial, commercial, corporate, etc.
That being said, I am always up for new challenges, and over the years, I have collaborated and still continue to work with a variety of clients on different projects such as - Interior/architecture, products, events, and food photography. Connecting and working with unique individuals from diverse creative fields, cultures, and backgrounds has been one of the most inspiring, satisfying, and rewarding parts of my work.

Since every client and shoot is unique, I usually start with a brief chat over the phone or in person; We'll go over the location details, looks, and final use and quantity of the images. I generally prefer to shoot at the most meaningful location to you and your project
My home studio/office is located in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, right by the Morgan L stop, it is a lovely loft with natural light in my studio, few options of backdrops such as different colors of seamless backdrop, and my own hand made dark grey muslin backdrop. outfitted with different studio lights and modifiers it is a very cozy and professional setup for close-up portraits and headshots, and weather permitting I have a huge rooftop with beautiful views of the Manhattan skyline.
All my studio work is done by appointment only.
